The following events took place in 2183 CE, or Common Era.

Events

• Commander Shepard is assigned to SSV Normandy.
• Eden Prime War and the Battle of the Citadel
  • Eden Prime is attacked by the geth. They are later discovered to be under the command of Saren Arterius, a Spectre. Arterius is subsequently stripped of his title and goes into hiding.
  • The human colony Zhu's Hope on Feros is attacked by the geth. During attempts to liberate the colony, it is discovered that the inhabitants are all infected with spores created by a massive plant-like creature called the Thorian.
  • A research facility at Peak 13 on Noveria goes dead. A subsequent Spectre investigation reveals that the facility, under the direction of Saren Arterius and the Matriarch Benezia, was experimenting on the rachni, previously believed extinct.
  • The Citadel is invaded by the Reaper Sovereign. Thanks to the leadership of Cmdr. Shepard of the Normandy, the Citadel survives, but Shepard's claims that Sovereign is actually a member of a race of sentient machines are dismissed as a conspiracy theory. Shepard dies two months later after a mystery assailant destroys the Normandy.
  • David Anderson retires from active duty in the Systems Alliance Navy, instead taking a position in the human embassy on the Citadel.
• Josue Doblar is assigned to SSV Omaha
• On Zarr, Vatra Korrsul murders Drala Alirr and takes her last name, becoming the new High Queen of the lirrax. She then begins making plans to attack the asari outpost on the neighboring planet Tamaris.
• After several years of negotiations, the Vol Protectorate is granted colonization rights to Patavig, a cold, toxic planet in the Macedon system.
• Admiral Kahoku of the Alliance Navy disappears while attempting to investigate the group called Cerberus. He is later found dead on an uncharted world.
• The Systems Alliance attacks and liberates the factory world Rothana and destroys the Geth Holdout there under commander Nick Talon.
• The Collectors attack a Systems Alliance space station named Frigand Station.
