First Lieutenant James Van McClellan was a Systems Alliance N7 marine, and a hero of the Exodus War. He is also the father of Taylor McClellan. He is a minor character in Mass Effect: Chronicles of a Silent Galaxy, and one of the main protagonist of Mass Effect: Rise of Terra Firma.
He was born on Earth in 2210 CE, and attended the University of Florida. After graduating he joined the Systems Alliance Officer Program, leaving the program with the rank of Lieutenant. He received an invitation to the ICT Program, and earned his N7 in 2236 CE, just as the Terra Firma Revolts began on Terra Nova. James joined a N7 special operations team designated Graveyard Squad, that was assigned to locate Ashall Moore, the leader of Terra Firma, and bring him to justice. They located Moore's base of operations on Terra Nova, however, the operation failed and most of Graveyard was killed. This situation led Terra Firma asserting itself as the government of Terra Nova, becoming the Exodus Alliance, and declaring war on the Systems Alliance, beginning the Exodus War. In 2242 CE, James joined the war with a newly assembled Graveyard Squad, which covertly assault Exodus bases. In 2246, CE Graveyard captured Ashall Moore, and the Exodus and Alliance forces began peace talks. The Alliance was forced to surrender the majority of the Exodus cluster to the Exodus Alliance due to military instability, an fiscal issues that had remained since the Reaper War. As the Exodus Alliance only received minor trade and military bans, James was infuriated with the treaty. He returned home in late 2247 CE, to his wife Wendy Kinnel, and the two had a son in 2248 CE, Taylor McClellan. In 2255 CE, while alone at their house, James and his son were attacked by Cerberus operatives, in the fighting, James was killed trying to defend Taylor, who was kidnapped to be apart of the PSI Program. James died as a decorated hero of the alliance, his close friend and former Graveyard Squad member Admiral Mac Thor swore to avenge Jame's death, and find his son.
