The galactic assault of the Reapers has begun, and the inhabitants of batarian-space were the first to fall victim to their onslaught. Camala, Anhur, and even their homeworld of Khar'shan have all been crushed by the sentient warships, with their few survivors fleeing into Alliance-space while the rest suffer the fate of being assimilated into the Reaper armies.
But there is one batarian colony that has managed to hold off Reaper conquest and provide a glimmer of hope for batarians across the galaxy: Lorek. In spite of every world around them being completely obliterated by the Reapers, they've managed to cripple the efforts of both Reaper and Cerberus invaders and save thousands of innocent lives.
While they've proven resilient so far, increased pressure from Reaper forces has begun to break their resistance and spread their defenses thin; the only way they could continue their war effort is with outside assistance.
Tasked by their respective governments, members of a joint-species task force known as Sigma-4 have been sent to Lorek to assist in the defense and, if necessary, the evacuation of their resistance force from the planet. However, as the unit is made up primarily of Citadel races, including humans, they will find themselves at odds with those who possess a common enemy
In order to survive the increasing Reaper assault, the batarians and the task force must put aside their differences and work together for the common goal of destroying the Reapers.

Prologue
The sky was black, clouded with ash and smoke. The only light came from the flames that engulfed the ruins of the Jalnor metropolis, and the electrical discharge bouncing off of massive Reapers in the distance. On the outskirts of Lorek's once great capital, amongst the remains of an old shack in a once-beautiful park, hid Burik and Choran.
"I think I see it," said Burik as he stared through his night-vision field glasses up into the sky. All four of his eyes were fixed on a small asari-built shuttle approaching from above. "Radio HQ." Choran nodded and complied.
"HQ this is Watcher 1-1. The shuttle is on approach."
Elsewhere, in a bunker hidden even farther from Jalnor, an engineer stared at a terminal with headphones on as the message came through. The engineer turned to another batarian, a large muscled figure with sharpened eyes, who stood with his hands behind him in the center of the small, dimly-lit room. "Sir, they see the shuttle."
