The Shepard family is a prominent and highly influential human family from Earth. They first rose to prominence after the Skyllian Blitz of 2176 and the ascension of Alliance soldier John Shepard as humanity's first Council Spectre. John fought throughout the Eden Prime War, Collector crisis and the Reaper invasion, arguably becoming one of the galaxy's greatest heroes. Before such events, John was originally a member of the infamous Tenth Street Reds on the streets of the great megatropolises of humanity's homeworld during his childhood before turning away from a life of petty crime and underworld gangs upon his enlistment into the Alliance Navy at the age of eighteen.
By the end of the Reaper invasion, most consider the Shepard family as a powerful dynasty—both politically and militarily. Through several generations, the Shepards remained extraordinarily prominent in galactic affairs, having a significant impact on major historical events following a period of reconstruction efforts.
