The Terran Federation was/is a [1]federal government in the Terminus Systems that made first contact with the wider galaxy in 2986CE, 800 years after the Great Galactic War. Being one of the first new arrivals to the galaxy since humanity in 2157 the Citadel council was unprepared for such an event which led to the Second contact war (Known as the first contact war to the Terrans) which lasted for four years and ended in 2990CE with the signing of the Terminus accords.
Since that time the Federation has made many attempts both politically and militarily to improve their standing in the galaxy.

The Formation[]
The Federation was founded on April 1st 2160 by the remainder of Terra’s nations after a global war known to them as “The Great War” which saw the devastation of much of the planet’s ecosystem slowly decaying it over time. After 10 years of rebuilding and constructing the government structure in 2170 the planet’s dying health was discovered by the Federal Research Institute, knowing that staying on their planet was a death sentence for their species the new Terran Federation started a new exploration/colonisation program using many orbital resources from its founding nations.

It wouldn’t be until the year 2270 that the Terran Federation would make their planet’s situation public, in a time where the Federation wasn’t restricted to just their homeworld and had colonies on almost every world in their star system. The response was mostly controlled panic as many people had noticed the declining situation of Terra and the government quickly made a statement that they will conduct a emergency migration of most of the planet’s population to the colonies whilst also conducting a terraforming program to repair the damage done to Terra.
However ten years after the migration program began it became clear to the Federation that the colonies they have would only be temporary solution if they factor in the amount of births per year but due to cultural reasons limited breeding was not a option and thus the FRI began to design what humans would call [2]O'Neill cylinders or O’Neill colonies to provide more living space as well as conduct research into industrial areas to gain access to more resources.
Of course the biggest achievement of these research efforts was the discovery and understanding of Element Zero or Ezo by the rest of the galaxy.
However unlike the rest of the modern races at the time there was no Mass Relay found in the Terran home system, instead for seventy years the FRI have been working on a drive core that can jump between clusters during that time the Federation proceeded with colonising it’s local cluster of five systems.
By the 2340s the Terran Cluster as it is known by the rest of the galaxy, had become incredibly developed but much of that progress was undone by the Interstellar War. On November 7th 2347 Four years after the conflict began and a week before it’s end the Federation had perfected what they called the “Long Drive Core” or LDC for short, having done a test flight using the TNS Novenda.
With this new technology and the Interstellar War at it’s end the Federation truly began to tread the path of a interstellar culture.
